West Islip Fire Department

On 11/16/19 at approximately 1235 hours the West Islip Fire Department was activated for a reported structure fire in the area of Gladstone Ave and Finley Pl. Upon arrival, 3rd Assistant Chief Robert Celeste confirmed smoke showing from a 1.5 storey private dwelling with all occupants out. Chief Celeste then requested dispatch to transmit the Working Fire and notified the mutual aid plan to be activated. Mohawk Engine 3-17-5 was first due and quickly stretched hose lines to the fire. Vanguard Engine 3-17-2 soon after arrived on scene and stretched an additional hose line while the crew of Truck 3-17-4 began doing primary searches. It took crews about 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Town of Islip Fire Marshal’s office.

West Islip Fire Department

At approximately 0300 hours on 11/16/19 the West Islip Fire Department was activated for a motor vehicle accident at Udall rd and Sunrise Hwy Service rd. While units were enroute, West Islip Fire Dispatch advised units of possible entrapment. Upon arrival, 1st Assistant Chief Mike Cooper confirmed a single vehicle accident with heavy entrapment and requested Heavy Rescue 3-17-3 forthwith. Crews arrived on scene and immediately put multiple Hurst Tools into operation. It took about 5 minutes to extricate the victim from the vehicle. WIFD rescue squad transported to Good Samaritan Hospital.

Just a reminder to all....... at 0300 hours, while we all sleep soundly in our beds, these VOLUNTEER First responders jump out of their beds at the sound of the alarm, race to the Fire House, suit up, jump in the truck, and do stuff like this. The one word in my post that is the most important to remember is, "VOLUNTEER". Thank you to the WIFD and every other First Responder out there! You are SUPERHEROES!!!
